Artist Statement
I am primarily a representational artist currently based in Central New Jersey. I recently graduated with a BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. A great many things have and continue to influence my art and I enjoy exploring a vast array of subjects. I’ve always been an avid enthusiast for nature and often represent natural elements such as trees and water in my work. I am very driven to capture exact realistic representations of my subjects and tend to have a high respect for artists who are adept at photo-realism, yet many times I also opt for a more Impressionistic approach with lots of shapes and vibrant color. I would say most of my work tends to be a merging of those two approaches.
Architecture has also been a major influence on my art, as I am very interested in the history of building design and capturing that in my own way. Currently I am looking to explore light in my works by painting scenes of high contrast with one major light source. Nocturnal cityscapes with warm and cool colors working together for a more striking image have been an outlet for this particular interest. I’ve also always had an earnest passion for history and the passage of time in general and that theme is one I’ve explored with my Senior Thesis drawings and would like to push further as paintings at some point in the near future.
