J.E.M.
My Grandmother helped me paint my first oil in 1972 at the age of 16. However, a career in the military intervened and it was not until 1986, when I met my wife Claudia, that I started painting again. In the interim, I kept busy taking things apart and putting them back together, including in the late 1970's the design and construction of a battery-operated automobile. Also, while in the Army I was a unit photographer, providing photo stories for The Wheel, a local military newspaper. My interest in the arts has since expanded beyond oils and photopgraphy, to include pen and ink and watercolour. My oil entitlted 60,000 Time to Change earned the 2009 AFLAC Purchase/Scott Taylor Award at the Columbus Artists' Guild Annual Member Exhibition and is now part of the permanent collection at the Columbus Public Library. In 2006 I received third place for an oil painting at the Phenix City Mayor's Art Contest, and second place for photography in Columbus' Tenth Annual Arts on the River Fine Art Show. I also enjoy many hands-on crafts such as pottery, carving “Spirit” walking sticks, bamboo rod-making and fly-tying.
I currently have homes in both Columbus and Elijay, Georgia. I am a former two-term President of the Phenix City Art Council, former two-term President of Creative Exposures and am a member of a number of local artist groups, including the Columbus Artists Guild, Plein Aire Artists of Georgia, and Blue Ridge Arts Center. My work can be found at the Joseph House Gallery and at local art and craft fairs, as well as on the web. James Eugene Moore
