Jamie 'Goose' Voigt was born in 1964 in Mitchell, South Dakota in which he was taught in the Mitchell Public School system by two influential Art teachers. Calvin Schultz was Voigt's first art teacher that influenced him to paint scenes of South Dakota, Schultz designed the murals for the World's Only Corn Palace. Don Durfee, Voigt's second public scholl teacher influenced Voigt to be more exploritive and influenced many of his Tropical paintings.

Voigt took up painting 25 years later and has since produced over 150 paintings which may be found in many public and private collections in the Unites States. In recent years, 90% of Voigt's work is donated annually to non-profit organizations to be sold at fundraisers and auctions. Voigt resides in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and has many of his early and present work on display at the Goose Pit Art Shoppe located in the Historic Harvester Building in downtown Sioux Falls.
