Jamie AT Alexander began as an artist, poet, dancer and video director in the San Francisco area during her long student years. She was briefly associated with the Grateful Dead and other artists/personalities such as Bill Graham and directors/founders of KQED/Public Television in a time of mutual inspiration. She went on to become a psychologist/counselor working with children, as well as a full professor and single mother in Los Angeles' stimulating, creative and historic Laurel Canyon. Joyfully, her daughter, adopted from China 'returned to her' in this lifetime. Since Jamie's Irish great grandfather and grandfather (both named James) were union organizers in the coal mines and both died violent deaths, Dr. Alexander has been a strong teacher of social justice and a visionary who works for an America that embraces all ethnicities, religions and differences.
Several years ago, early experiences in San Francisco and Marin County flooded her mind causing Jamie to work through previous issues. It was not an easy journey, but her brief reconnection with her distant path and inspiration by individuals such as Bob Dylan fostered growth and increased self understanding. Fresh from this time of discovery, Jamie returned to painting in Fall 2009. Thank you for sharing her personal growth, expression and celebration at this, one of the most exciting times in her life! In her first website, please bear with some paintings facing sideways and organization as new learning continues.
