ARTIST STATEMENT
My art is based in the tradition of realism but is influenced by ideas, techniques and themes from various sources past and present. At the moment I am drawing influence from the Spanish Baroque masters, 19th century French and American artists, contemporary realists such as Steven Assael and Nelson Shanks, as well as artists who are taking realism to personal extremes such as the Norwegian Odd Nerdrum and the Mexican sculptor Javier Marín. Lastly my largest influence is from Alan LeQuire. Assisting Alan for the last several years has provided me with a great deal of encouragement, knowledge and experience.
In regards to my style and mediums I am for the most part a realist painter and sculptor. However,
I am also drawn to the abstract beauty that can be found in the way that color is applied to a canvas as well as the forms and textures that a sculpture may possess. Exploring these qualities is one of the main reasons for creating my art. Whether it is a landscape, figurative sculpture, commissioned portrait or work inspired from my imagination, I get a great satisfaction by exploring ideas and techniques as well as through the creative act itself and I hope others gain a similar satisfaction when viewing my work.
