Symbolic Mysticism

I work with acrylic, encaustic wax, mixed media collage, and ceramics. Ideas for my work sometimes come from my dreams, mythology, Nature, and themes of spirituality. It celebrates connection, expression, and stages of transcendence. I'm interested in discovering the ephemeral, immaterial, intangible things that define and express the human spirit. Making art and being in nature are my gateways to spirituality.

Much of my work ends up as a Circle within a Square. After years of making these paintings without understanding my fascination with this particular composition, I finally discovered that the circle in the square symbolizes balance, completeness and unity of all life, and of the Infinite. Being drawn to that symbolism was pretty cool. I began thinking of these compositions as meditations on the transcendent mystery beneath the symbols.


I was also fortunate enough to be asked to collaborate with a number of amazing, fun, and creative people. My task was to create imagery for the suit of Wands in The Science Tarot deck. Our launch party in 2010 was at the California Academy of Science.
