Janelle Schneider is a painter working primarily in acrylic and mixed media with many years experience as a computer graphics visual effects artist for both film and television. A native of Portland, Oregon, Schneider received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from PNCA in 1998. Awarded the Best of Design in1997 and the Outstanding Thesis Award in Graphic Arts in1998, Janelle’s passion for painting has been lifelong and is inspired by nature interwoven with themes of dreaming and spirituality.
Early in her career as a Portland design professional Janelle moved to the San Francisco Bay area, where she developed her skills as a computer graphics texture artist for various studios including Dreamworks and Disney while maintaining her personal studio practice in acrylics. Schneider contributed 14 paintings for the suit of Wands/Stars in a group project “The Science Tarot”, which won the Maker’s Faire Editor’s Choice Award in 2010, was published and is now in its’ second edition. Schneider’s works have exhibited in many San Francisco area venues including shows at the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley, the Joseph P. Bort Metro Center in Oakland, and the SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco. Additionally, her works are held in private collections in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Norway. She currently lives and works in Happy Valley, Oregon.
Schneider's work is dedicated to the memory of her mother Kathryn (1945-2014), who's wish and blessing for her daughter was that she continue on her creative path and to keep painting; making and selling her work.
