Janelle Schneider is a mixed media artist and 3D texture paint/look development artist for film and television. A native of Portland, Oregon, Schneider received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from PNCA and was awarded with 'Best of Design' in the Faculty Choice Show (1997) and the 'Outstanding Thesis Award in Graphic Arts' (1998) respectively.
Her drive to create began in early childhood when she was given oil paints, brushes, and canvas, and she began painting themes from the outer world and her own inner imaginary worlds. As she matured and developed as an artist, her work became influenced by ideas within quantum physics, comparative mythology, indigenous cosmologies, and in the concept of Unified Oneness; that all of creation as a unified whole exists within each of us. Her studio practice is grounded in art making as a gateway to the transcendent. Her work is inspired by the natural world, and the energy that interconnects all things.
A Portland design professional, she moved to the San Francisco bay area in 2002 to begin work on the films Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions. Janelle remained in the bay area working as a 3d texture artist on a number of films including Constantine, Charlotte's Web, Spiderwick Chronicles, Disney's A Christmas Carol, Mars Need Moms, Madagascar 3, Mr. Peabody & Sherman for studios including Tippett, PDI/Dreamworks and IMD/Disney. During this time Schneider was an artist member of the San Rafael non profit Art Works Downtown where she maintained her own studio practice in acrylics. During this time her work continued to explore and define personal aspects of inner and outer worlds.
Schneider contributed 14 paintings for the 'Suit of Wands/Stars' for the group project The Science Tarot, which enjoyed a launch party reception at the California Academy of Science, and received the Maker’s Faire Editor’s Choice Blue Ribbon in San Francisco, 2010. Schneider has exhibited across the San Francisco Bay Area, including shows at the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley, the Joseph P. Bort Metro Center in Oakland, the Olive Hyde Gallery in Fremont, and the SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco. Her works are held in private collections in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Norway.
She currently lives and works near Portland, Oregon.
Schneider gladly accepts commissions for work.
