I was born and grew up in the Portland, Oregon area, and also lived for many years in the San Francisco Bay Area. In both places the different qualities of light have inspired me.
I began painting seriously at the age of 12, and have worked in oils, pastels, sculpting in clay, and mosaic design and now work primarily in acrylics and mixed media, and occasionally encaustic wax. I attended PNCA in Portland Oregon and have a B.F.A. in Graphic Arts. I worked as a professional Graphic Artist early in my career, and then transitioned into the film industry where I have worked as a 3D Texture Artist and Look Development Artist, providing digital painting for 3D animated films, live action films, and most recently TV. From 2002 - 2013 I lived in Marin County in the San Francisco Bay Area, I worked on feature films, and maintained my studio practice in acrylics. In 2008 I became a studio artist at Art Works Downtown in San Rafael, joined the Marin Arts Council, and participated in many shows and events, including Marin Open Studios 2009 - 2012. The time I spent in the SF Bay Area still sings in my heart, and many of my newest paintings are about places there that I love.
I currently live just outside of Portland in Happy Valley, where nature is all around. Coyotes, frogs, and often owls offer serenades in the evenings, and by day I can marvel at the beauty of red tailed hawks and bald eagles in flight. I feel a deep connection to Nature which informs much of my life and work.
I am engaged in a lifelong exploration of myth, symbolism, psychology, and the role of dreams and the subconscious in art and art making. My work and life are influenced by the study of Earth Honoring traditions, by the writings and drawings of Carl Jung and the writings of Joseph Campbell. I am interested in the expression of unseen energies, echoes of the mythic, symbolic and sacred as reflected in all things. My work is an exploration and expression of the energy that connects all things.
My work is dedicated to the memory of my mother Kathryn (1945-2014), her wish and blessing for me was that I continue on this crazy creative path and to keep making and selling art.
'The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature.' -Joseph Campbell
