About Jerry McElroy

Hello! I have been a photographer all of my adult life after graduating from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. I have been painting for the last 15 years. I am mostly a self taught painter but have attended several workshops over the years. Most of my paintings center around the subject matter of the desert southwest, although lately have been exploring seascapes. My fine art photography has been published and collected by numerous corporations and private collectors for more than 25 years. My images have been used to illustrate many book covers, annual reports, magazines, and advertisements. My art has been accepted, and won awards in major art shows and includes a 'Best of Show' in the Cheyenne County Annual Spring Art Show and the Denver Art Museum's 'The Real West' show. Most of my work centers around the desert southwest and the ancient puebloans. Being of Native American decent, I am drawn to the places and ruins of the Anasazi who flourished in the Four Corners Area over 700 years ago.

I have an affection for the U.S. Coast Guard, having spent a total of 8 years as a Boatswains Mate,... 3 of those years was in a Lighthouse on Lake Michigan. Other duty stations included a Buoy Tender in Alaska, and an 82 footer in California. I also operated 30 and 40 foot patrol boats in the Great Lakes performing law enforcement and search and rescue operations. On Fine Art America, I present a collection of historic drawings and blue prints which are public domain, some of my own photos, and paintings.

Thank you for your interest in my work. Visit my website at jerrymcelroy.com to view or purchase my original paintings.

Pueblo Pottery

July 10th, 2015

I have begun producing still life paintings of Native American pottery, mostly of Anasazi pots which date back 1,200 years by the people who were the builders of such wonderful places as Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon. I have long been a student of the...

Poverty Island Lighthouse

March 22nd, 2015

The painting of The Poverty Island lighthouse is one that I have wanted to do for a long time. It was a light that I would see at least once a week on our logistics run to Saint Martins Island Lighthouse back in the early 70's. This forlorn and lon...

The Lighthouse Project

March 21st, 2015

Last January I embarked on a project that has special meaning for me. In the early 70's I was in the Coast Guard and was stationed at Light Station Escanaba on Lake Michigan. This was back when most lighthouses were still manned by the Coast Guard ...
