I have worked in clay for over 25 years and before that, I carved miniatures in various materials, wood, bone, ivory and shell. Previous to my sojourn into art, I had a background in math and science. One semester, I took an art class to 'play in the mud' and got hooked on the whole spectrum of ceramic art. Less and less my focus was on my studies and more on my creativity. When my father died, my life changed. While I was good at math and loved it, I realized I had been eager to please my father who admired the hard sciences. I had my own math and science tutoring business during that time. My teacher was Marc Lancet, who I consider to be my Sensei. He has co-authored a book on wood kilns and continues his own fabulous work. I have also taught ceramic art privately in my home.
I'm an animal lover which might be reflected in my work. We have one dog, two cats and two parrots who own us.
Last but not least, I am a long time meditator and student of Buddhism, Taoism, Patanjali's Yoga Sutra and the other ancients. Art is just an expression of the things I have learned and love.
