Jim Bennett was born in Los Angeles, California and lived his first 50 years south and east of there, until moving to Highlands Ranch, Colorado in 2006. He has been taking pictures since about age eight, when he got his first box camera. After taking photography classes in high school, his interest in photography grew even more with 35mm cameras.
After moving to Colorado in 2006 and being unemployed for over three years, he took advantage of the endless photographic opportunities and resources in Colorado to build his portfolio. So far, his photographic focus has primarily been landscape and nature photography, but he’s expanding into event, action, portrait and model photography.
Meanwhile, he has had his photos accepted into many art and photography shows and won many awards, including Best of Show in 2011. He has had exclusive shows at the Firehouse Gallery in Roxborough and in several Douglas County libraries. He is a member of the Roxborough Arts Council, Gilpin County Arts Association and has been president of the Highlands Ranch Photography Club since 2010.
