Jim Harris

My philosophy of art is simple: I paint what I want; if someone else is moved by it, that's great! I derive great joy from selling my original paintings to people who truly love them!

JIm Harris ArtWorX Studio is my home studio from which I produce my 'stained-glass-canvas' acrylic paintings. I have a degree in art (oils, watercolor) from James Madison University, but my life took a different track, and for 35 years I have been an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church. In 2004 I retired from full-time ministry, but I still serve in ministry settings. Currently I am the Associate Pastor for Congregational Care at Bridgewater UMC in Bridgewater, VA.

My unique 'stained-glass-canvas' creations are colorful acrylic paintings that tend to remind the viewer of stained glass. They are obviously influenced by years of church work, though most of them are not 'religious' or 'spiritual' in nature. An exception to this are my Christian Icon paintings. My 'stained-glass-canvas' paintings tend to use flowers, still lifes, and nature as the subject matter, often influenced by the beautiful scenery that exists all around me in the Shenandoah Valley, where I chose to live. I also produce coastal themed paintings for three galleries on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Recently I have introduced a new but similar painting style, 'quilted-canvas' using a quilting motif, influenced by the art of my mother, a very gifted quilter still at the age of 99!

I sell my original works, and some prints through here; and I price them very reasonably in order for ordinary folks to be able to afford them. When you purchase one of my works you become the owner of an orginal, unique piece of art that no one else in the world owns, and usually for under $100.00. My work is on display at the OASIS Gallery, Harrisonburg, VA, Skyline Cafe and Art, Massanutten, VA, R.R.Smith Center Gift Shop, Staunton, VA, Boardwalk Cafe, Waynesboro, VA, Shenandoah Valley Art Center, Waynesboro, VA, EXOTIQUE Gallery, Durham, NC, Gaskins Gallery, Avon, Outer Banks, NC, Indian Town Gallery, Buxton, Outer Banks, NC, and at the YellowHouse Gallery, Nags Head, Outer banks, NC; I also sell small reproductions of my work as greeting cards.
