My philosophy of art is simple: I paint what I want; if someone else is moved by it, that's great! I derive great joy from selling my original paintings to people who truly love them!
JIm Harris ArtWorX Studio is my home studio from which I produce paintings, etchings and collages. I have a degree in Art (oils, watercolor) from James Madison University, but for 30+ years I have been an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church. In 2004 I retired from full-time ministry, but I still serve part-time as the minsiter of congregational care at Verona UMC, Verona, VA. I opened my studio the same year that I retired, and I have joined several local arts organizations: Central Shenandoah Arts, OASIS Gallery, Shenandoah Council of the Arts and the Shenandoah Valley Art Center.
I create colorful acrylic paintings that tend to remind the viewer of stained glass. I call these paintings my 'stained-glass-canvas' works. They are obviously influenced by years of church work, though they generally are not 'religious' or 'spiritual' in nature. An exception to this are the Christian Icon paintings I produce in the 'stained-glass-canvas' style. I also create abstract acrylic paintings and collages; as well as scratch art etchings (which are tightly representational). My 'stained-glass-canvas' paintings tend to use flowers, still lifes, and nature as the subject matter, I also do more traiditional acrylic paintings of barns and landscapes, influenced by the beautiful scenery that exists all around me in the Shenandoah Valley where I chose to live. My scratch art etchings for the most part are also of barns and landscapes.
