Joyous energy, vibrant color and powerful imagery are hallmarks of Jo Thompson's work. She has exhibited widely in the U.S. and is represented in numerous private and public collections.

Jo earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, from Illinois Wesleyan University, traveled to England, France, and Spain for further art studies including graduate work in Art History at the University of Arizona. Jo continued her education to become a credentialed teacher, has a Master's in Education specializing in Instructional Technology, and she has taught both art and technology in public schools K-12 and at the college level.

Her career as a painter, print maker,and pastelist has taken her from St. Louis, to Los Angeles, Palm Springs, San Diego, and most recently Bisbee, AZ. She has owned several galleries, and opened her studio to offer art classes for both adults and children. Jo has recently returned home to Southern California and is busy creating new artwork.

Changes To Teaching Schedule

Thank you to all my wonderful creative students both children and adults who have joined me at my studios for art classes! What fun we have had! What a privilege to share with you all. I want to let you all know that as of October 1st I will no longer be offering classes in my studio since I am moving and will not have the space to teach. I am teaching at the Redlands Art Association and they are very affordable. I will still be in Riverside and plan to focus on creating my own artwork. Thank you again for all the JOY and I hope you will all continue with your artistic endeavors.

The Riverside Art Museum is presenting its annual Member Exhibition giving artist members of the museum a chance to show and sell their work. Artist Jo Thompson is a part of this year's show and will be attending the Award Reception Thursday June 28th 5-7:30 PM. Artist Jo Thompson is planning a full summer of Art Classes, Salons and Workshops in her studio in the Life Arts Center, 3485 University Avenue in Riverside, California. The Classes are focused on specific media and techniques, and are two, 3 hour sessions long, meeting every other week. The Salons are on the Second Sunday of each month and are about creativity, inspiration, centering, and recharging with a 3 hour format which includes meditation and tea! Workshops are a single longer session. The Drawing Studio is another format where drawing instruction is offered for 90 minutes every other week and will be an ongoing class.
