Joan Ryan

I dabbled in every creative medium throughout my life beginning in Southern California. Created 3 dimensional art that was featured in an issue of a Better Homes & Gardens. Designed commercial and residential interiors winning a best design award from the city of Manhattan Beach. Moved to New York City and jumped into the Art Student's League for a time. Moved to the suburbs and have since worked at the Pelham Art Center, Rye Arts Center, Greenwich Art Society, and every summer I've taken two day workshops in Nantucket as well as Martha's Vineyard.

Spent 2009-10 in a two year certificate course study at the New York Botanical Gardens in Botanical Illustration. Worked in graphite, pen and ink, watercolor, and color pencils. Learned an amazing amount of new techniques in order to capture finite botanical details which has been interestingly enough very helpful in my current work, which is fast and bold acrylic painting on 8x10 canvases using a 2.5' brush which is very liberating. However, I continue to work in oils and watercolors as well.

I continue to promote a special type of art work.... my commissioned 'Family Shoe Portraits'. I create a 22x30 watercolor of each family member's favorite shoes on their front porch. It's a great way to freeze a family in time creating shoe memories that lead to real family memories of a lifetime.

I've exhibited and sold my work in a variety of mediums at local venues through out the Westchester, New York area but am running out of space on my walls, hence I'm hoping that this website will bring sales as well as my own website RYANARTSONLINE.COM
