Joanna Powell Colbert is an artist, writer and teacher of Tarot and earth-centered spirituality. Her paintings and mixed media pieces combine her love of symbolic, archetypal art with the mysteries of the natural world. Amber Lotus Publishers calls her one of “the most accomplished and well-loved artists in the Goddess-spirit community.” Her work has appeared in many publications since the mid-1980s, including SageWoman, PanGaia and Circle Magazine.
The Gaian Tarot, nine years in the making, combines Joanna’s love of symbolic, archetypal art with the mysteries of Mama Gaia, the natural world. The limited edition Majors-Only deck sold out before it was released in 2004. The deck is featured in US Games’ Encyclopedia of Tarot, Volume 4. A mass market version of the Gaian Tarot will be published by Llewellyn Worldwide in 2011. The Collector's Edition is currently available from the Gaian Tarot website. Over 600 of the 1000 decks in the edition have already sold.
The Gaian Tarot was created during the decade Joanna lived on a small island near Bellingham, Washington. Today she lives in the woods outside Bellingham where daily encounters with the mysteries of the natural world continue to inspire and inform her work.
