A Dublin, Ireland based Photographer I've been taking photos for most of my 54 years, I travel a lot, always with cameras.
Photography for me is the classic 'right brain versus left brain' struggle, balancing the artistic with the technician. Being enough of an artist to spot the opportunity and enough of a technician to capture it. You have to appreciate the beauty in everything to understand it fully.
When I was a kid I could not afford a camera or the film or processing and when I got some spare money I would share a roll of film with some friends and we would develop the negatives ourselves, the best ones we printed, I wish I had some of those negatives today.
Photography can be making memories of your friends, capturing a moment in time that will never come again or expressing yourself as an artist. Thanks to digital we have even surpassed the quality of film and now everyone has a camera, even in their phone. Almost every kid has a camera now but not everyone has the artistic ability which takes years to develop, unfortunately not everyone can appreciate the beauty.
Art today can be oil on canvas or pixels on photographic paper, a graphic artist, photographer, painter, sculptor or architect all are artists today. People who say they don't understand art are the same people who look at something beautiful and feel better without ever knowing why, you don't have to understand it to appreciate it. I hope you feel better after viewing my work.
