The origins of The Black Tape Project came in 2008 when Joel Alvarez team was commissioned to shoot a model whose idea was to be wrapped in the black stripes. Although he initially was not impressed by the idea of randomly wrapping stripes on the body, he stuck with the concept, and by using tape as his medium, he began to cultivate one-of-a-kind designs with black electrical tape.
Originally, the project was just applying black electrical tape to compliment the curves on the subject. Due to the current rising demand of The Black Tape Project, the concept continues to reinvent itself and has since matured as a new form of art. Each suit is 100% unique to each subject.
With limitless possibilities, The Black Tape Project has attracted the attention of great visual artists, recording artists and photographers around the world. In a few short months, The Black Tape Project has been featured in magazines worldwide and has been invited to tape dancers for international Dj’s such as Carl Cox and Steve Aoki. Showcased in countless events and night clubs from Fetish Factory to Mansion night club.
