It has taken me a long time to get here, the place that I can say with great joy, that I am an artist. As Janice Elasheimer states in ‘The Creative Call’, “As we begin calling ourselves artist, owning the title. . .not merely thinking of ourselves as people who do that . . . as a hobby, we will find that all of life offers us the stimulus to create.”
I have discovered the stimulus of wondering. Life is full of wonder. Look around you, and take some time to wonder. You will find there is beauty everywhere. My paintings represent moments in time, snippets of life and wonderings.
I enjoy painting with watercolor, the fluidity is amazing. Recently I discovered watercolor canvas. It has transformed my paintings, moving towards chiaroscuro. I love the play of light and shadow. However, the finished paintings no longer look like watercolor. It is new, paint can be lifted off the canvas with a wet brush unlike anything else. It will take some time to really figure out how to get the watercolor feeling. Most likely I will alternate between canvas and paper.
All of my paintings are about my expression of worship to my creator. The highest form of worship is to use the talents God has given us, with passion. I want to use these gifts to give love letters to Jesus. I imagine them as gifts like the precious drawings my grandchildren give me to hang on my fridge. I hope you enjoy them too.
