Award-winning photographer John Bushnell specializes in Northwest photography. His well-known representations of Mount Rainier and Washington State ferries have made him a favorite at Pacific Northwest art festivals.
“Many of my clients have told me they send my photographs to grown children who have moved away, as a reminder of home. On the flip side, I believe offering representations of
local landmarks is a service to visitors and newcomers as a way to help them build an association with their new environment.”
“I do like to travel and bring home my impressions of other cultures and times, but there’s no place like home,” said Bushnell, adding, “I was lucky to be born here where the mountains meet the sea – a photographer’s dream.”
In addition to local scenes, Bushnell photographs landscapes and architecture on both coasts, the West, England, Ireland, Wales, Italy, and Hawaii.
“It was particularly satisfying to me to capture the timelessness of old churches and stone houses in Europe. Like many Americans whose ancestry traces back to this area, I find the medieval towns and castles fascinating because they connect me to the history of my family.”
In addition to winning local awards, his Time Waits for No One came in 2nd out of 20,000 entries and he was a finalist for his Sisters, Oregon Reflections (displayed here), both on Betterphoto.com.
Bushnell, a graduate of South Kitsap High School, grew up in Port Orchard and began photography with a Kodak box camera when he was twelve years old.
