John qualified in graphic design at Stevenage and studied in Plymouth, lecturing in Great Yarmouth, and has painted patriotic art, military scenes for over thirty years. Whilst his work isn’t restricted to military subjects, his passion for this subject shines through every piece he painstakingly and lovingly produces, many paintings taking months of planning, research and effort to get the details absolutely correct. A collaboration of contemporary and traditional art that will hang well on any wall. Man has always been hardwired for war. And in war we see the very best and worst of mans humanity to man, acts of unbelievable bravery and acts of depravity and horror. War cannot truly be understood by anyone who has not been touched by it. In the hearts of old soldiers is the belief that we are always ready to take up the sword for God, country or our comrades even when we have grown old and our bodies have failed us. It is I believe true old soldiers never die they do just fade away. I endeavour to provide a Just a slight feel of this in my paintings to show the glory, sacrifice, folly and conflict of war.
