John Parnell - Fine Artist
John Parnell(1958-) is a graduated of Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada. His paintings are crafted in pursuit of beauty, with a keen awareness of colour and composition, a dynamic layering of ideas with imagery is more symbolic than naturalistic.
My primary rational for painting is that words are restrictive, inadequate or deficient. Paintings essentially do not 'speak' because they are visual. They are silent optical experiences that interact with the intellect in ways that words can not. The whole point of painting is to combine purely visual elements, such as line, colour, form, and content, into a unique and personal statement, through intellect and fabrication. Therefore explanations through words can limit the reading of the piece, potentially diminishing rather than enhancing the experience. Every element of a painting's composition is critical to the end experience of the work.
