BLUfengr artist johnny johnston, brings to life all things unique in a way few artists ever do by offering extreme versatility and diverse variations in each of his works. His flair for the dramatic in what he refers to as “Garage Art”, reaches far beyond the status quo into a world that pushes boundaries and blends unique and beautiful creations through large color soaked images which stimulate ones imagination, causing viewers to often adopt an interpretation role, seeking the story behind each painting.
Once a nationally ranked surfer who was raised in a Carolina beach resort, johnny has lived throughout the Continental United States and Hawaii where his travels and life experiences developed into a unique and powerful nouveau realistic / Urban / abstract expressionism style of art which lends itself to creations that don’t lock the artist into a particular pattern or style but allow him the ability to develop works based on emotions he feels at that particular moment.
An individual who is fascinated by urban landscapes and the animalistic political arena he continually studies works by Jackson Pollack, Wassily Kandinsky and Willem De Kooning as well as other contemporary masters of the 20th/21st century seeking to apply his own style on our worlds fallen ideals and spiritual abandonment.
johnny speaks to his work as “Something spiritual seeded deep within my soul derived from both a tragic and beautiful life which takes on an existence of its own when placing color upon color in an attempt to reach mixtures and depth within the surface of my canvas or board. Then when working each painting I find the subject envisioned as I first started each journey rarely ends in the place it began transcending in many cases into deeper, more complex creations that far surpass my original intentions or my imagined talent.”
