Joseph Wetzel is a Tucson artist with a special love for the nude and the outdoors, often combined. For those bored to death with (or offended by) the nude, he understands completely! He has a few galleries of non-nude and very family-friendly art they may enjoy including 'No Nudes Here.'
As with every living human who has thought about it, he has an opinion about what art is. It seems to him that a great deal of effort is sometimes made to carve, paint, sketch or photograph an image exceedingly well but with a final product that lacks spirit. That doesn't feel like art. And a great deal of effort is made to do something with a message, or that is emotional, that isn't done well, or for other reasons simply isn't art. So art to him is something other than these two things. If you can do that, you are an artist. So, every now and then he is an artist, he believes.
Lastly he suspects that any art created to outlive the artist is sheer egotism, although a little of it is probably also great art.
