ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Many years ago I took a pottery class and became captivated by the organic process of turning earthly elements into useful and decorative creations. This sparked a passion within me, and I found myself absorbed by the clay. Several years later I obtained a degree in Interior Design which taught me the fundamentals of design. At first, my interests were in creating functional pottery, items to be used in the home or office. More recently, I was introduced to the process of Raku, ancient Japanese and Korean art forms involving fire, smoke and a high degree of unpredictability.
My Raku creations are first thrown, or turned, on a potter's wheel and then bisque fired to temperatures exceeding 1600 degrees. Next, each piece is hand glazed and fired again in an outdoor Raku kiln where flames and smoke create unique surprises. No two pieces are ever the same. I hope you enjoy these earthly creations as much as I love the mystery of Raku!
