My watercolor and acrylic paintings reflect the diverse cultures and environments in which I have lived or traveled, including Japan, Italy, Mexico, the Fingerlakes of New York, Connecticut, North Carolina and Florida. I am a lover of detail and realism and have painted all of my life. In my paintings I attempt to bring to the viewer the emotional response I have to the people, landscape or setting I am capturing in paint. I fall in love with the details of the faces or the clothing of the people who are my subjects, or the weathered wood of an old fence, and hope to inspire the viewer to be drawn to them as I am. I often paint a natural setting very close up so that the viewer will feel as if they are inside that setting.
My paintings are done in a slow, layering process. The subjects are painted from life, when possible, but more often from original photographs of subjects I have encountered personally and to which I was drawn. I enjoy doing commissioned paintings and welcome your requests. Many of my paintings are available in giclee prints and can be made any size up to that of the original.
Although I have taught art for over twenty years, it has only been in the past eight years that I have intensified my involvement in painting, as a result of extended workshops in the mountains of North Carolina and vineyards of Tuscany. I n addition, I studied digital photography through an extended workshop and have included some of my photographs on this site. I have been exhibiting my paintings regularly since 2001, and many of my paintings have been shown in over thirty-five exhibits throughout South Florida. My original watercolors, acrylics and giclee prints hang in private homes all over the United States and in Japan.
