Julia grew up in Hong Kong, a cosmopolitan and unique city where east meets west. Underneath the westernized appearance, the ultramodern airport, sparkling skyscrapers, glamorous buildings and modern transportation of Hong Kong lies a culture and tradition that couldn’t be more Chinese. She reaps the benefits of this diversity of cultures and harmonious co-existence of east and west, and draws inspiration from both her past and present experience to develop her personal interpretation and self-expression.
She is a multi-talented artist. Her major interests are painting and pottery. She has the good fortune to have taken instruction with notable instructors both in Hong Kong and in Canada.
Her love of nature motivates her to capture the beauty of the natural world. She focuses on development of her personal style, which is an on-going learning experience. She tries to capture the rhythm, the texture, the feeling and the mood of her subjects by employing her flare for vivid colour to create form, shape, texture, and design.
She has received several awards as well as Ontario Arts Council grants. Her artwork was selected for numerous juried exhibitions sponsored by Northern Telephone, Northern Ontario Arts Association and Temiskaming Art Gallery’s calendar contest.
Her artwork has been on display in countless group and solo exhibitions and can be found in private collections in Canada, British Isles, U.S.A. and South Africa.
