When I was younger, I used to draw and paint humans a lot. That has changed a few years back when I have determined to conquer the oils. My propensity towards meditating around my subjects together with a little bit of unhealthy devotion to detail brought me to still life. I adore the Dutch Ontbijts (“breakfast pieces”); I think they are some of the most beautiful in their ‘monochromity’ and the most serene in the simplicity of their subject. Since discovering the Dutch Golden Age painting, I have been constantly researching the layered technique of the Dutch and Flemish masters, and humbly training myself in its implementation.
Sadly, due to my dominant hand injury most of the larger pieces are yet unfinished; however, I am able to enjoy painting miniature pieces where a lot of detail is executed under a magnifying glass. The injury also has encouraged me to explore photography. Of the most interest to me is macro photography; I capture tiny flowers and things in my friends’ backyards.
