'The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction.' ~Rachel Carson
Fine art and documentary phototographer Kate Hannon first began recording the world around her with cameras borrowed from uncles and a neighbor. As a child, her favorite places to shoot were the fields and meadows behind the small farm where she grew up, the city streets near where her grandmothers lived and the beaches of Cape Cod.
While at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, she took advantage of the photography facilities and also the rich cultural offerings of the city. She took classes at the Massachusetts College of Art and New England School of Photography. In addition, she has participated in many workshops offered by widely respected photographers, including with Georgie Friedman and the Museum of Fine Art Boston.
Seen in regional and national exhibitions, Kate's patrons love her imaginative fine art photography, particularly in night work and creative black and whites. 'Twilight Stroll' is currently in an exhibit, 'Being Human,' at Worcester City Hall. In October, her work will be included in a two-person exhibit at Laura's Center for the Arts, a state of the art visual and performing arts facility, in Hanover, MA. In November, she will be part of a group show, 'Night Photography,' at VisionSpace in Lynn, Massachusetts. Last winter, two of her night images were included in the national juried show, 'Regarding the 3rd Dimension.' 'Into the Night,' a regional show at Gallery Seven in Maynard, included 'City Lights,' a night black and white of downtown Boston from across the Charles River. An experimental night shot, 'St. Thomas Abstract,' was in the Scituate Art Association's annual juried show. 'Fishing Shacks' and 'Twilight at Scituate Light' were in the first ever members show of 'New England Night Photographers,' of which she is the organizer.
