Welcome to my Fine Art America PHOTO website where I offer prints of my best nature photographs and some experimental digital images.
Please also see my Fine Art America ART website for prints of my original paintings at http://www.1-kathleen-mcdermott.artistwebsites.com.
I feel paintings and photos, though both are considered two-dimensional art, should never be mixed or offered side by side because the method for creating photos is so completely different from applying wet paint to canvas or paper with a brush. A camera simply records what the photographer shoots at, and the quality of the resulting image depends on the camera equipment and the photographer's sense of composition when choosing the angle and light, and also in cropping the final photo.
An artist painting a picture faces the same compositional challenges, and he uses paints and brushes and his own eye to create the image on a blank canvas, a method and process very different from the way a camera records an image.
I often use my photos as references for paintings, and I also find the photos are flatter and darker than the reality I am trying to capture with paint.
