Artist Statement: People, animals and nature are what intrigue me. I especially love painting the innocent expressions of children. My focus is on capturing a look, or a feeling, or just a moment. Usually my inspiration comes from what I imagine that person is feeling or thinking and I want to create that either through color or expression. The beauty I find in nature also inspires many of my pieces. Watercolor, pastel, and oils are my favorite media for creating art. My goal is to continue studying portraiture and the figure, and to learn how to create the best and most interesting designs possible. I believe art is an ongoing learning process and each day of painting brings new ways to express what we learn from that painting experience.
“As an artist, I want to make a connection with another person, in hopes they will see my inspiration, and to touch them in a way bringing back a memory, a feeling, a moment in time.'
Artist Biography: Being mostly self-taught I have been sketching everything and anything since I was a child. My love of art continued through high school and I received the Student Art Award my senior year, and my love of art continues to grow. I had a strong foundation in design and studied fashion and interior design at college. But my first love is painting - people, animals, and nature. Usually it is the mood, expression, or pose that first captures my attention. Then once I begin the design I find the painting takes on a personality of its own which moves me through the piece.
Over the past 10-15 years I have gotten back to painting, and have taken and continue to take numerous workshops with well-known national as well as local artists. My mediums of choice are watercolor, pastel, and oil.
I have exhibited with the art groups I belong to in PA, as well as in FL. I have also recently exhibited as a solo artist at Planet Art Gallery and Mt. Lebanon Public Library, Mt. Lebanon, PA, and Upper St. Clair Library and Post Office, Upper St. Clair, PA. Others exhibitions I have participated in are Art in the Round, Washington, PA, Art in the Garden, Washington, PA, Double Door Gallery, Carnegie, PA, Stifel Fine Arts Gallery, Wheeling, WV, South Arts Gallery, Bethel Park, PA, West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, Jewish Community Center, Scott Township, PA, Providence Point and numerous art exhibits at the Galleria, Mt. Lebanon, PA, Box Heart Gallery, Pittsburgh, PA, Red Door Space, Pittsburgh, PA, and Fein Art Gallery, Pittsburgh, PA.
