Art brought me to food – and food has brought me back to art.
When I became a chef I chose to concentrate on pastry and confectionery because of the great beauty and expressiveness I saw in the mediums.
Over time I became fascinated with the unending variety of color and texture in raw ingredients of all kinds; tomatoes, sugar cane, snails – little worlds of beauty in everything. It was not enough to cook and eat; I had to photograph these things as well.
Ingredients led to food environments; markets, diners, restaurants, bars and street vendors – the crossroads of people and food. These are my primary interest and favorite subject today.
