Kathryn Paige’s Biography
Kathryn grew up in a small town in Texas in the 1970’s. As a young girl, Kathryn loved to express herself by creating art whether it was drawing, writing poetry, painting or playing dress up. As an adult, she quickly realized her passion for photography and traveling. She ventured through 38 states and international destinations such as New Zealand, Brussels, London, Fiji and Mexico.
Kathryn's aspiration for adventure and her dedication to capture great photographs once found her on top of a mountain 12,987 feet up during an electrical storm while capturing wildlife shots. Yearning for aerial photographs, Kathryn flew in a motorized glider experiencing thermals that propelled her 10,000 feet up in 60 seconds, sideways! Kathryn’s adventure did not stop there. In 2006 she left all that she knew in Texas to live in a 40 foot RV for two years. Driving half across the country, she took road trips to 16 states including the San Juan Islands. No matter the destination, she had her photographic eye directed to nature’s profound beauty. Her amazing photographs of landscapes, wildlife, and abstracts, are testaments of her keen artistic eye.
Kathryn's focus has been drawn to the unique side of nature in the last few years that many would under appreciate. She quotes 'It's not just about the affect Mother Nature has on us emotionally or visually, but the strong urge to fight for what was once hers, there is beauty in the fact that nature doesn’t care about our possessions or paths we choose.” She captures this metamorphic state for those who choose to see and appreciate it through her D80 SLR lens. Kathryn is fascinated by the small remnants of history, ingenuity, and traces of humanity left from nature for us to mysteriously piece together the unraveled stories.
Prior to becoming a fulltime artist in 2006, Kathryn had 20 years experience as successful hair designer in Dallas Texas. She settled in Austin Texas in 2008 to seek ways to exhibit her photography. In a short time she has exhibited in several venues, such as the Austin Art Space Gallery, Austin Museum of Art, E.A.S.T Austin Studio Tour, and Texas State Capitol just to name a few.
If you have the pleasure of seeing her few and rare abstract expressionistic paintings they exude bright acrylic colors of whimsical design on canvas. At times she combines photographs and paint to create a 3D multi-medium piece. Many have expressed her paintings to have an expression of love, and fluidity.
Kathryn's photography is delicately edited, if ever, as she prefers to leave them in a raw 'natural' state. Her 'Door Series' and 'Nature vs. Nurture Series” is evidence that her eye for beauty can be found in most everything...even decay.
Kathryn likes to donate a percentage of sales to charities such as Hearts in Harmony, Light Hawk, and Spin.
