Kathy Mitchell earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing from Arizona State University and went on to recieve a Masters in Art Education while teaching and studying art in New Mexico. The paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe and Native American Art have always influenced her motifs. After teaching on an Indian Reservation in New Mexico for five years, she and her husband and two children moved to Europe. There, she taught art for 25 years in Germany for the Department of Defense Overseas Schools. Kathy's studies of art and travels throughout Europe include art history courses in Florence, Italy and Salzburg, Austria and studying watercolor with professional artists in Germany. Although she likes to paint in oil and acrylic, pastels, watercolor and batik painting are her favorite media. Now retired from teaching, being back in Arizona has rejuvenated her appreciation for the ever-changing color of the mountains and desert flora of the area. She is a member of the Artists of the Superstitions and Gold Canyon Arts Council.
