I have always been attracted to old objects. These objects are often no longer valued or wanted. In them I see a dignity that comes with age. By using them as subject matter, I can give them a place in the sun once again. I like to paint a lot of detail because I feel the detail often shows the object's personality.
For many years I was influenced by the still lifes from previous centuries. I used my own collection of things, such as ceramic animal figures, in my paintings. I also liked to paint still lifes with my home's interior as a background. Over time, I became interested in painting old objects found in estate sales.
Initially self taught, I spent a year in France studying classical realism. This study improved my skills, taught me to see, and gave me a better understanding of how to portray three-dimensional forms on a two-dimensional surface.
I grew up on Long Island and now live in northern Colorado, with time spent in the midwest and Silicon Valley in California. I was fortunate to be able to pursue my dream of being an artist and painter after many years of working in the computer industry.
My paintings have been in national and international shows, and have won numerous awards. I am currently represented by the Independence Gallery in Loveland, Colorado.
