I was born and raised in Oconomowoc, WI on a small hobby farm. My love of the outdoors had inspired me to start photographing my surroundings at a very young age. I started photographing with a little 110 mm point and shoot camera (remember those?!) and showing my work at fairs. I started earning awards such as the Eastman Kodak Award. By high school I had bought my own SLR Olympus camera and started taking darkroom and black & white photography classes.
I attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse focusing on Mass Communications with an emphasis in Photography. After graduation I photographed school portraits for Lifetouch National School Studios where I received the Regional Champion Award and 2nd Runner-up in the National competition. I've also been published 4 times with the International Library of Photography. I'm currently in Minneapolis, MN shooting a variety of photography from weddings and individual portraits to event photography and running Stevens Square Center for the Arts, a nonprofit artist cooperative.
I love to travel and am continually traveling the world to photograph the many wonders. Most my photographs are from my many trips and all are for sale. You can also see more samples on my website: www.kathyschumann.com.
