The Orange Grove Pond
The Orange Grove Pond lies in the heart of the San Fernando Valley amidst the dozens of orange trees remaining from the early days of citrus farming. Built in 2006 "The Pond" has become a bird's paradise along with a micro-biologist's dream. Ranging from common Mallard and Pekin ducks to Egrets and Herons, as well as, dragon flys, toads, minnows, Koi, and the most popular and dominant species, the Red-Eared Slider Turtle, this pond has become one of my favorite spots for wildlife photography. Following the flora a fauna's seasonal changes of its micro-climate throughout out the year is very challenging, yet rewarding, and dramatically reflects LA's Mediterranean climate in the Desert of the Colorado Plateau. Here are a just a few of many pictures taken since 2012. Please enjoy and marvel at this small ecosystem which lies within walking distance of a very busy boulevard.
