I'm a self-taught artist. Often pointedly digital in appearance, my work features abstract representations and bold color. I aim to find a middle ground somewhere between traditional painting and what was once called 'computer art,' back when it was an emerging novelty. My experiments often seek in some way to combine soft elements, such as hand drawn lines, pastels, and blended color gradations, with hard elements, like rough and sharp edges with stylized 'pixels,' and other obviously digital artifacts (layering, duplication, repetition, etc).
I truly love working in this digital medium...it affords me such a flexible and fluid creative workflow, and the nearly infinite range of expression available with these tools still fascinates and inspires me. I hope you enjoy what I have created and shared here in my online gallery.
To those considering a purchase of my work: I recommend the Metal Print option, as it offers the best reproduction of my images' colors and has an appealing finish. These prints are also very lightweight and do not require framing.
I will present my first public exhibit,
'Line, Loop, Wash: digital paintings by Kevin McLaughlin' May 1-31, 2014
708 W. 22nd St,
Minneapolis, MN, USA.
