Artist Statement: My abstract work is a kind of snapshot performance, a dance with light that strives to bring the observer into a portal unknown and yet vastly familiar. As a former professional classical Indian dancer I relentlessly trained to infuse every movement with the sacred by moving from within. Now, as a result of disabling chronic pain, the dance had to stop but the movement continues with the camera in a distilled form. Like a child at play, whirling with the camera eliminates me the “artist” in a fusion of subject and object. This form of capture takes the material world components and by combining color, texture, light and form, in effect, displays their real essence. Most of the artistic decisions are implemented in post-processing and printing. I am striving for unique color schemes, light forms, geometry, texture and fluidity of movement.
