One could say that Larry began his Art career at the ripe old age of 8 by copying wildlife pictures found
within the pages of his father’s Outdoor Life and Field & Stream magazines. By middle school he had
progressed to copying a different “wildlife” from the pages of his friends’ Playboy magazines, lest
his slightly over-zealous parental figures catch him with the actual magazines in his possession.
Around this same time, an understanding art teacher took an interest in his talents and encouraged
his exploration with various mediums and subjects. However, the most important thing that she
impressed upon him was that drawing would be the basis for all his artistic endeavors.
Leaving the Art world in 1990, Larry focused on career and family for the next twenty years. After being
laid-off from the construction field in 2010, he decided to refocus on art and began the BFA program
at CSU-Pueblo. It was during that time that his interests have shifted more toward depicting the
subtle nuances of the human form. 'The intricacy of the body’s planes, curves, and angles converging
on a single point is fascinating to me, and the delicate plays of light and shadow on those forms
demand my attention'.
'I not only wish to depict the human form, but to display the life of hidden secrets inside each form.
My desire is to capture dreams and fantasies, thoughts and feelings, and unleash them on society. To push
my art to new heights, to create images that dialogue with each viewer in a personal manner, and to
depict raw, unadulterated beauty, it's the capturing of emotion that I am striving to depict'.
Larry also specializes in hand-pulled, limited-edition mezzotints available directly from the artist.
