I was born in 1952 in Portland, Tennessee. Though like the bumper sticker says, 'I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could,' my family moved back to their home in Ringgold, Texas, when I was only two weeks old. With my childhood spent in rural small town Texas, I developed a love for the laid back pace of the country. I must confess that I love small town ways. These humble early beginnings have played a vital role in forming the basis for my style of imagery. I love bold colors, simple design elements, and subjects that many can relate to. I believe that this has helped create an acceptance of my work among others who possibly grew up in similar situations.
I spent 27 years as a professional photographer, achieving the level of Master Craftsman Photographer. In the year 2000, my wonderful wife Donna and I sold our very successful studio in order for me to pursue a second career as an artist specializing in oil painting of Texas and the Great Southwest. Starting over was not easy, but through hard work and the encouragement of many, my art has been accepted and grown in popularity among many Texans and Texans-at-heart from all over the country. My work has been licensed by Texas Highways Magazine, included in the official Trail of Painted Ponies, used as official poster art and exhibited at numerous art shows and festivals around the great state of Texas. This year of 2007, in addition to showing at several festivals, my art will be exhibited in no less than four major shows, including a two artist show at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia.
I look forward to each day and the opportunities that may present themselves for me to share my Texas art with the world. Keep A Texas State of Mind! LGL
