Laurie Kidd - Fine Artist
Rochester, WA - United States
My art comes from a background of artsy people. All my family members on both sides are gifted in some form of art. In grade school I made posters. Junior high was a mishmash of string art, scratch art, leather, copper, painting, drawing as well as drafting. In high school I took oil painting classes. At the age of 33 I got involved with a group of ladies who met once a week to do crafts. We evolved to Tole - Painting and ceramics.
Eventually my husband and I opened a store called 'Kidd's Tole and Craft Supplies', then Scentsational Weeds -N- Tole. I taught 'Wet on Wet' oil painting and Decorative Tole Painting in the shop. Eventually branching out for 2 quarters of college, teaching 15 weeks of oil classes & 8 weeks of Tole. The rules changed and the college required certification (I was not certified due to the expense) so the classes were terminated.
In 1994 after closing the shop I worked at home painting creations from our wood shop. In 1996 we moved to Rochester, Wa. to begin a new career in pizza. 5 years later we sold our half of the business.
I had not painted for 11 years. Then when talking to our worship leader at our church, she was commenting how they wanted to incorporate all the arts into the worship swevice and would like to see classes taught. Thus I taught a 6 week course in painting and our leaders never did get to take the class!
Because of that class my confidence level began to grow & I began painting in worship in June of 2007. My paintings have started selling (I DO NOT sell originals for the most part) but I sell prints 'Giclees' on canvas. I personalize them & they have a certificate of number. Some will be limited editions, some not. All of my works are copyrighted, so please, DO NOT DUPLICATE THEM WITHOUT PERMISSION.
All of my paintings are done free hand. I never thought I bould freehand an eagle or a cabin and am so blessed to see how they turn out once complete.
