I have been painting for a long time, mostly on and off, but more seriously in the last 10 years. I am a self-trained artist but I have read so many books, visited so many museums, and worked with local artists that it is not fair to take all the credit.
I paint because I love to take a flat white surface, add a few dabs of color and have something pleasing appear. Not always. But, it happens enough to motivate me to continue. I find it amusing when people view my art and comment, “I could never do that”. And I ask, “Have you ever tried”? And they realize they really don’t know.
I paint what I like. It is not my concern if the viewer agrees or not. But, I do appreciate their critique. I am forever amazed how people can become attached to one painting or another. There is no rhyme or reason. It is what is exciting about art…..one man’s treasure is another man’s trash.
In addition to oils, I have worked with acrylics, stained glass, and wood. I paint plein air but more from photos. I don’t copy photos but lift parts from several to make a whole.
