Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo - Fine Artist

Milano, MI - Italy

Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo, a Californian who has lived in many places, creates lively stitched silk images.

She developed her skill in four years of apprenticeship to Tibetan craftsmen in India and is one of few non-Tibetans to have mastered their traditional textile art.

Leslie has always loved working with fabric and colors as well as working on herself, so it gives her great pleasure to be able to create inspiring images of personal transformation from pieces of colorful fabrics. All the better when those images also inspire others!

She studied design at the University of California in Santa Cruz and continues to broaden her education with art and textile studies in California and Europe. She is a member of the American Craft Council, Surface Design Association, and Quilt Italia.

Her commissioned works reside in private and monastic collections in Europe, North America, and Asia and have been exhibited at the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, California.

Whether secular or sacred, Leslie's work honors the Himalayan culture which has inspired her and made her feel at home.
