Vermeer-Genre

The works in this gallery are meant to expand the materpieces of Johannes Vermeer. My renderings depict what happened before of after the instant represented in Vermeer's paintings or what other paintings he could have done. I purposely inserted still lifes themes that were common in Vermeer's time into the compositions. In doing so, I hope I can stimulate viewers to imagine what a still lfe or a Vanitas painting would have look-like if done by Vermeer. It is this search what motivates me to create these new "Vermeers" and to put them in context with a plausible story that should help the viewers to start the journey of interpretation. This is only as a starting point, viewers should own the story and in doing so, the work.
