Lilly King

I am a self taught Leather carver and painter. I was born in New Zealand . I love Reining horses and have been an asst trainer to some of the very best in the business. I learnt and made Western saddles, english saddlery, and various leather items in N.Z., on the family farm, but through demand for my paintings I ended up mainly producing them. I came to the U.S.A. to learn more on training reiners, and again through friends have been asked to produce my Leather Paintings.

My pictures are very unique. I refer to them being 3D paintings as not only are they handcraved to realistic subjects they are painted to look like real life. Leather is a hard medium to use as it will stain, so once you apply the colour that is it. Although most of my clients love the horse and western themes, I can and do produce any subject required.
I love to work with leather and the details that I can apply are almost unlimited. I am always trying new ideas , or changing how I use what I have.

As I say to my friends the more challenging the more I love creatiing it.

I handcraft commissions from Photographs of pets, horses, animals, actually I will try any subject the client may wish. I have also done some pencil sketches also for friends.
