ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I paint because it frees me to express myself. I see the world as unique. The beginning of my visual interpretation varies with each artwork. It is what spurs me onto the next canvas. There are no mistakes in art. What happens on a canvas or page evolves from my hand and mind. Some designs and compositions develop from the curve of a line or the way water falls. Unusual use of color makes a statement. Watercolor paper can be painted on, but can also be used with mixed media such as pastels, oil pastels, ink, even acrylic paint and green gold leaf. Green is one of my favorite colors because it is versatile, transparent, and vibrant lending itself to the expression of life and light.
The use of light is essential in art. The presence of light illuminates a painting, creating transparency. Depicting light reflects the goal of artists throughout history, particularly the Impressionists. It is my goal to accomplish creating light in my work and to study the effect colors have on light and how certain colors permit light to shine through my painting.
