Nevada County (California) artist Lisa Redfern refers to her work as TransMedia Art. Her pieces, always filled with vibrant color, conveys a lightness of mood and a celebration of nature. Lisa’s favorite subjects are animals and the small aspects of the natural world that might otherwise be overlooked.
The tools she uses to create her striking pieces are electronic. “Art always comes from the inside,” says Redfern. “ It works its way into the outside world in whatever way the dreamer can imagine. To reach satisfactory results, creators skillfully utilize whatever tools are available.”
Redfern is a self-taught artist who approaches her work from a marketing and business background. She’s worked as a public educator, graphic designer, book publicist, digital photo retoucher and as a portrait photographer. Redfern is a name is well known, locally, for high school senior portraits.
Recently, Lisa’s embraced the world of e-books. ‘e-Publishing is a fabulous blend of all my accumulated skill sets - and it’s extremely eco friendly!” comments Redfern.
During the summer of 2012, Lisa photo illustrated and published Toby Bear and the Healing Light written by Lisa Boulton. Her next e-publishing project is a five volume fiction series of her own. “It’s a coming-of-age paranormal romantic thriller,” laughs Redfern. “I originally wrote it in the ‘90’s. Once I finished the Toby Bear book, I decided it was time to blow off the dust to see if it would fly. What is so exciting about working on an e-book the iPad era, is that book reading is no longer just words on pages - art, video, and music can be included - making the telling-of-a- tale a much richer imaginary experience.”
Lisa Redfern is an avid supporter of Nevada County businesses and the artist community. She regularly tutors small business owners on topics such as setting-up and maintaining websites, improving camera techniques, data organization and photo processing, marketing, and improving online social networking.
Her artwork is regularly featured in tourist publications, on websites and on display at local venues.
