LINDA KEGLEY ARTIST STATEMENT
I have been creating art in some form or other all of my life. My acrylic creations have culminated into what some may call a “style.”I do enjoy whimsical, slightly offbeat subjects, and in my more realistic pieces, I always want to leave a few items to ponder. In my Punta Gorda Midnight paintings, the clock always reads 9:00 PM, and the only one awake is the gecko. I like to leave something for the viewer to finish; people leaving a scene, an empty glass, and so forth.

Working in acrylics has released me from the confines of my past art creations--the constraints of computer graphics, calligraphy and the rigidity of pen and ink renderings. I love to use paints with added mica, and metallics. I have a 20-year background in computer graphics, and I still design many of my wallpapers and designs on the computer. I do enjoy creating wacky perspectives and riots of color in my works.

I find inspiration in everything. Paisley on a golf bag, someone’s shirt pattern, a wallpaper design or flowers outside my window might inspire me. The “Don’t Drink Like a Fish ®”series for which I hold a U.S. Trademark, continues to evolve with new situations, fish, patterns and themes. I’m up to #120, and the “fish” are now living all over the United States.

I love the free feeling of creating art, and will always lean toward the whimsical, funky style and subject matter that make people feel happy and smile. If I can transport the viewer to a happy world for a few minutes, then I have achieved my goals. I like to think of my paintings as a run through the water sprinkler on a hot summer’s day. I believe that the desire to surround oneself with happy art is universal.
Linda Kegley is the creator of the 'Don't Drink Like a Fish®' series of paintings for which she has a US Trademark. She has created 120 paintings in this series. She also paints Tropical Walkways and Funky Interiors in acrylics.
