Although I am a born and raised Texan, I did a lot of my 'growing up years' in the mountains of NM, north of Taos in a little resort town called Red River. I consider myself a mountain girl with a love for the outdoors and outdoor sports. Knowing that I wanted to major in art after high school, I chose Texas Tech University because they had an excellent art school, and Lubbock is as close to the mountains as I could get and still be in Texas. I eventually finished my degree one husband, two kids, three colleges, and seven years later. With a BS in Education from Midwestern State University - English as my first teaching field and Art as my second field - we moved to McAllen, TX, where I taught English at Mission CISD for three years. Then it was back to NM to teach and raise my children. After eleven years in NM, somehow, we ended up in Duncan, OK on a ranch. With my children grown, I returned to my art taking watercolor classes with a local artist, joining the Duncan Art Guild, and teaching several young people's art classes. I finally combined my favorite things - teaching young people and art. And ranch life is pretty good, too.
I work in with many mediums teaching my students to try new things. I even throw some pots now and then on my potter's wheel. Although I work quite a bit in watercolor, it is pastels that I love. I love jumping in, getting dirty, and producing a finished piece quickly. I have participated in several local art shows winning ribbons in watercolors and pastels. My oil paintings have not won any prizes, but there is hope. I try to get my students involved in art shows in order to teach them to see a project through to the finish point - matted, framed, and hanging on the wall. My students keep me young and on my toes.
A few years ago, I added my other favorite thing, writing, back into my life. I blog at www.bagwag.blogspot.com. I post a painting a week and write about my life.
