In 1981, I was left widowed and expecting my first child after my husband was killed while in the line of duty as a police officer for the City of Sacramento, California. Due to this grief, I began writing poetry and later developed my love for the camera and digital photography. It has been my pleasure to have my work used by law enforcement agencies throughout the United States to honor fallen officers*.
Fascinated with the thought of capturing moments in time that embrace the past while honoring the present, I have developed my skill as a digital photography artist. Now, residing in California’s Gold Country, I enjoy visiting historic sites and discovering the forgotten buildings and sites of the old west. By uniting found architecture and scenery with images of life, the photographs take on a deeper meaning, and the past is not forgotten.
Never to be simply limited by the past, my artwork continues to develop. Scenes of my travels and my home enchant and delight. With my camera in tow, I venture out to new discoveries.
It is my hope that you’ll enjoy my work, pause to remember the past, but look at the present and future with fresh eyes and joy.
*Lydia Miller’s work has been selected for memorial ceremonies, police week events, and 9/11 remembrances in the nation’s capitol and by private and public remembrances.
